Announcement
We are pleased to announce that the first students of our M.Sc. programme Geography of Global Environmental Change have successfully completed their studies.
Congratulations to Emiola, Augustine, Yunshuo and Refayili!
Two fully funded PhD positions (4 years, 30h/week) as part of the GeoTransformer project at the Institute for Interdisciplinary Mountain Research (IGF) of the Austrian Academy of Sciences, in collaboration with the University of Lausanne are opened.
The project aims to revolutionize (geo)statistical simulation by integrating transformer architectures - originally developed for NLP - into the modeling pipeline. The work will tackle key challenges in spatial encoding, continuous variable modeling, retrieval-augmented simulation, and multi-variable co-simulation.
We are looking for motivated, curious, and out-of-the-box thinking candidates - especially those with a background or strong interest in machine learning, (geo)statistics, or computational geosciences.
